I Stink… and Other Fun Announcements

Posted on Updated on

I am going to declare it to the world right now – I stink. For the past few months I have been dealing with colds and sinus infections, one right after the other, and, to put it bluntly, I’m tired of it. A while ago my brother-in-law suggested that if I wanted to stay healthy I should eat a few cloves of raw garlic every day.

This was advice I did not want to heed.

Don’t get me wrong – I love cooked garlic. I often double or triple the amount of garlic called for in recipes, and the garlic fries at AT&T Park are pretty much my favorite food ever. In fact, those fries and Buster Posey are constantly battling it out for the top spot in my list of Favorite Things about the Giants Organization. But according to my brother-in-law – and countless internet articles – if you want the maximum health benefits from garlic you need to have it raw. And chomping on raw garlic is not a pleasant experience. So I ignored the advice.

Until today.

After another cold/sinus infection/bout with laryngitis kept me home from church yesterday and prohibited me from yelling while watching football, I have decided that it is time to take action. And so today I bravely popped two garlic cloves into my mouth, chewed for as long as I could handle it, and then gulped it down.

And now I stink.

But I don’t care. Well, okay, I care, but I’m not going to stop the garlic. I’m also going to be drinking a lot of kale and spinach and other fun juices, and I’m even committing to going to bed before midnight every night. (In case you don’t know me that well, this is huge. HUGE.)

If after three weeks I don’t see any improvement, then I’ll try another course of action. In the meantime, though, if I go to give you a hug and you instinctively back away, I won’t be offended.  And if you offer me gum, I will gladly accept.

I’ll keep you posted on how it’s going.

And now for the other fun announcements….

  • Website Re-Design – The other day I told David, “I’m kind of over the whole black background thing.” He takes care of all of that stuff for me, so he is working on helping me re-design my site. Check back on Thursday for a brand new look.
  • New Books on the Way – I am finishing up two new books, and will have them available for purchase at the end of this month.
  • New Ministry Partnership – I am so excited to partner with Mr. Donnie to create a series of books for children. Mr. Donnie is my brother, and I have watched the Lord do incredible things in Donnie’s life, and now I have the honor of serving with him in ministry. Check out his Facebook page here.

Alright. I’m going to take my pungent self and get back to life. The kidlets have been suspiciously quiet for the last twenty minutes, and the last time they were this quiet they had turned their bathtub into a skating rink. Lesson for that day: Shampoo and Body Wash make excellent sliding agents.

Who knows what the lesson for today will be? Other than garlic makes you stinky.

See you soon.
