He Didn’t Wear the Apron

Posted on Updated on

Last night we had a meeting at our house. I love having people over, and I love serving tea or coffee and freshly baked cookies.

That’s probably because I love baking. I love to make bread, cakes, pies, cookies, crackers, cheesecake, and pretty much anything else that can be baked. I have an awesome old-school apron that I put on, I turn up the music, and I go to town. (I also make a huge mess, but that’s another post.)

Well, for the meeting last night I wanted to have chocolate chip cookies at the ready.

But I also had a book deadline.

The solution? David baked the cookies. (He also took over school for the day, and he and the kidlets cleaned the house from top to bottom. Yeah, he’s a catch.)

The cookies were amazing.

My only complaint? He didn’t wear the apron.

New About Section

When David was finished with the baking and cleaning, he also found time to re-design the site. And I love it. One thing that we did is change up the About section. Since I know not everyone reads that part, I decided to post it here too:

What can I tell you about me?

My name is Jane. That’s not the name that my mom gave me, but it’s the name that I use to write. It is a name that was given to me by an amazing kid who has grown into an amazing young man. It reminds me of a time in our life that was awesome, painful, encouraging, heartbreaking, exciting, and exhausting.

(For the whole name story, check out the “What’s in a Name?” tab.)

I am a wife.

I have been married to David for over 16 years, and he is my best friend. Our life has never been what you would call normal – but I wouldn’t have it any other way.

I am a mother.

I have four amazing kidlets who bless me every day. They challenge me, make me laugh, encourage me, teach me, frustrate me, and love me.

I am a daughter, sister, aunt, friend, niece, granddaughter, and cousin.

I am a teacher, writer, editor, and coach.

My interests are varied, from music to sports to reading to dance, and if you want to get me into something, all you need to say is, “You wouldn’t like this.”

(I am also just a bit strong willed.)

At the very foundation of who I am, though, is this simple truth: I love Jesus.

I am trying to learn to live and love like Jesus did. I am trying to see people through His eyes.

Sometimes I do it. A lot of times I fail.

But that is who I am, and that is what this blog is about. Taking life – the good, the bad, the geeky, and the ridiculous – and letting Jesus transform it.

Because really? That’s all that matters.

New Books

I am on track to have two new books out by the end of this month. I might post a sneak peak, but I might not.

But I will give you the titles, so there’s that.

Here they are:

  • 30 Days of Excellence – Getting through a month without throwing something at the television.
  • “Stop Chomping on the Butter!” – Being a mom and living to laugh about it.

See you soon!
